The Portrait of an Artist
Romano Ranieri
was born in 1935 in Torigiano Perugia, in Umbria Italy.
Today, he possesses fifty years of experience, having lived
among those great, in humility, with insuperable needs of
improvement. They place him among the foremost, in a level
worldwide for the knowledge and applications in the most sophisticated
techniques of Ceramics.
Romano’s capablities are limitless, in transferring
top effects to ceramics with diverse artistical expressions
(Sculture-Oil on canvas-Frescoes-Watercolors).
His works are featured all over the world, in prestigious
galleries, in churches, on the streets, in the most famous
plazas, and in the Museum of Modern Art in Basilea.
We proudly celebrate his fifty-two decorative ceramic panels
(150 cm X 100 cm each); created in Chicago-- adjacent to the
Scalabrignano Institute in North Lake;
which depict the most significant episodes of the New Testament.
Romano has participated in numerous National and International
Expositions, acquiring awards and critic triumph, although
he prefers not to be exalted.
One of his aspirations is to leave behind tracks of quality
of his works, as signs for future generations to remember
the past, to inspire those who will go beyond and surpass.
Proudly, he is the artistic director at the Romano Ranieri
School of Ceramic Art in Deruta.
Romano Ranieri is one of our
most appreciated and loved artists.
His artistic livelihood, has donated fifty years experience,
contributing to establishing a secular tradition in ceramics
in Deruta. He is positioned in between the masters who give
continuity to this school of cultural esthetics and artesian
genuineness, whom characterize and distinguish the “Derutese”
style.
Romano, as few others—can be known for aiming affection
and devotion towards the community. He has always practiced
teaching and transferring his knowledge, without funds, to
his pupils-- technical familiarizes and the necessary esthetics
in producing the most beautiful ceramics with superior characteristics.

Because of Romano’s
instruction, and consisting of talented painters; laboratories
and factories still maintain a fine reputation for Deruta--
simultaneously sustaining an equivalence of elevated “quality”
and “culture”.
In times of international crisis, we witness the suffering
of the Derutesi Ceramics; due to shrinkage in the marketplace
and aggressiveness of competitors which come from countries
advantaged with ridiculously lower material and labor costs,
although not in possession of principal customs nor the urgency
of protecting artistic originality.

The example that Romano Ranieri
wants to set --is for people to follow the road of instruction
in order for qualification; it is in the search of artistic
cultural value for a product.
It consists of choosing the road of hard knocks which encompasses
knowledge and constancy. This road is not so different from
the one the ancient masters followed, whom constructed the
Derutese Ceramics into something grand.
Thanks, to Romano Ranieri,
in the occasion of this exposition, who again gives the beauty
in his paintings to participants, which generously can be
put it to good use in the Derutese community.
